In 2007, I began drawing in ball point pen and have discovered that I really enjoy it. I have always liked the look of black and white photos and drawings created by using pencil, pen, ink, or charcoal. I use color at times to add some accent in certain areas. Many of these drawings here are simply done on 8.5x11" sketchbook paper. While a sketchbook limits the size, I like the convenience as I can have it with me at all times and sometimes feel some of my better work is done on a smaller scale as I like to add lots of detail. I also like experimenting with different materials to create different looks.

Just a quick, small, fun pen drawing colored with art markers and oil pencils. The colors and variety of designs remind me of a day at the Fair.

"The Dance" with color added. The original is just black & white.
"The Dance - free and clear from worry and fear. Free to go from here to there, yet we remain connected in this world we share." mlw

9/2008 5"x7" The original is black & white, but I decided to add just a little color and think it turned out well. |
"As time goes by, the fear of beauty's escape closes in, but only if we allow it. For some form of beauty can always be found within all things." mlw

This is basically the first drawing I did using ball-point pen and it is still one of my favorites.
"If we follow only the journey set in our mind, We will miss out on the journey in our hearts." mlw

Wow! When I started this piece, I did not expect this to take so long. Sometimes that's the way it goes though, when I come to a stand-still with a piece of art I'm doing, I just have to step away from it for a little while, but I finally feel I am done with the finishing touches.
